Abstract
Vocabulary is a common yet essential element in the process of mastering English. Exposure to new vocabulary occurs when learners engage with texts that are both rich and meaningful; they determine the meanings of unfamiliar words by considering the context provided by surrounding words, phrases, or sentences. A descriptive narrative qualitative methodology, the study explores the processes through which learners expand their vocabulary via reading. The study was undertaken across five schools situated within District 7 of the Ozamiz City Division, encompassing the participation of five Grade 2 teachers, five parents, and five students. The results showed that students had different reading experiences, which affected their motivation, how they felt, and how well they could absorb new terms. Therefore, the study concluded that the reading habits of Grade 2 students are very important for their vocabulary growth, as shown by their experiences at home and at school.
